Quality Communication Solutions

Audio/Visual communications specialists Direct Communications Ltd. explains the benefits of high-quality communications equipment in schools.

Schools today are increasingly using a range of audio-visual equipment in their halls, music rooms, drama studios, classrooms and communal areas, and students are able to benefit greatly from cutting-edge communication technology in schools.

Sourcing and installing this equipment, however, can be difficult and school leaders need to find expert suppliers that they can trust to deliver communications solutions to their schools.

Founded in 1972, Direct Communications began life as a Public Address installation company working primarily in the retail sector. Thirty-seven years on, they are one of the longest-established companies in the communications sector with experience and expertise honed over the years in many fields. They are a national company, with their head office in St Ives, Cambridgeshire and depots in Kilmarnock, Ellesmere Port, Chesterfield and Bristol.

Expertise

Public Address is still their core business but they have expanded into theatre/concert hall sound systems, CCTV, interactive ICT, disabled alarm and refuge systems, distributed TV (including HD) systems and, recently, digital signage. Along with this they also have expertise in IP networks and telephony.

For digital signage, Direct Communications can offer a full package of equipment, template and content design, leaving the school to set the schedule. The Hydravision software that is implemented by them is easy to use and can be supplied as a complete unit or as a software only package.

Energy Efficient

Public Address systems can be expensive to run, as amplifiers are power hungry and run very hot, which is not exactly good for energy consumption. However, Direct Communications have exclusive access to a range of energy efficient digital amplifiers from Eco Tec Systems, which offer very low running costs, a low carbon footprint and hence lower total costs of ownership.

The system has an extensive range of speakers – suitable for any environment – and could be used as the main media reinforcement tool in a classroom as it is capable of delivering scintillating quality and performance for any multimedia presentation while being clear enough to make an ideal partner for a cordless microphone to deliver a Soundfield-like enhancement experience.
