Meet the Team

Below is a summary of SCEMES’ departments, along with profiles of some of the key members of staff that work in them:

Directors

Responsible for formulating all company policy as well as overseeing the working practices of SCEMES.

Steve Meredith
Managing Director

Steve was one of the founder members of SCEMES and was involved in the set up of the company in 1999. He was previously a manager with British Telecomms where he implemented national & international data management within the British Telecomm network to enable interconnection between British Telecomm & other telecommunication companies.
 
Steve has been responsible for the technical development of the web site, publishing & administration functions within SCEMES and was elected by the board to be Managing Director in February 2008.
 
He is currently responsible for implementing major changes within the company to improve customer relations, communication & marketing and the company’s corporate image.

Managers

Responsible for overseeing SCEMES' different departments and managing company staff.

Kirsty Walsh
General Manager

Kirsty took on the position of General Manager in November 2008 and is responsible for overseeing SCEMES’ sales, marketing, administration and technical departments.

Kirsty, who has worked at SCEMES since October 2003, has been responsible for driving many of the company’s key changes over the past few years including the improvements to SCEMES’ core products. She has also supervised the marketing team and project-managed the publication of The Headteachers and Bursars Handbooks.

A studying member of the CIM, Kirsty continues to oversee the company’s marketing and publications projects whilst working closely with MD Steve Meredith to drive SCEMES towards greater growth and cement its position as a market-leading educational resource company.

Marketing

Responsible for raising consumer awareness of SCEMES’ products and overseeing the quality of all products produced and distributed by SCEMES.

Helen Gordon
Marketing and Projects Manager

Helen joined SCEMES in November 2007 having previously worked in television, radio production, and journalism.
 
An NCTJ qualified journalist, Helen now implements SCEMES’ marketing strategy by writing articles, website content, press releases, and overseeing the editorial content of the Headteachers and Bursars Handbooks. Shehas recently finishedproject-managing the SCEMES National Short Story Competition and is now working on a number of internal and external marketing projects.

Artwork 

Responsible for advising customers on the creation of their colour advertisements, as well as designing and creating artwork.

Kelly Walker
Design Projects Manager

Graphic Designer Kelly is responsible for managing SCEMES’ artwork department and working with customers to help them maximise the potential of their advertisements.

Kelly, who trained in theatre design at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, worked as a freelance designer on numerous stage and television shows including Doctor Who, before joining SCEMES in August 2008.

She now takes responsibility for all artwork and design projects within the company ensuring that SCEMES’ publications are produced to the highest possible standard.

Administration

Responsible for overseeing the smooth operation of company business and ensuring good customer service.

Jill Whitchurch
Administration Manager

Jill has been a core member of the SCEMES team since the company was started in 1999. With a background in telecommunications, Jill now takes responsibility for all SCEMES’ administrative procedures including customer accounts and debt collection, health and safety management, risk assessment, office maintenance and stationary orders.

In addition, Jill oversees SCEMES’ human resources management including wages, holidays, sick pay and employee details. Fully qualified in First Aid, Jill has represented BT in First Aid Competitions at national level. She is now SCEMES’ appointed First Aider.

Sam Mitchell
Sales Administrator

Sam facilitates the smooth running of all sales administration and is an essential member of the administrative team. Working alongside Jill, Sam is responsible for a number of administrative procedures including data inputting, switchboard operation, liaising with customers and sending out company literature.

In dealing with customer queries, calls and complaints, Sam ensures excellent customer service. She also designs web adverts for customers and works alongside SCEMES’ artwork designers to produce print adverts for the Headteacher and Bursars Handbooks.

Tilly Jones
Customer Services Manager

Tilly joined SCEMES in March 2008, having returned to Oswestry after living and working in London for sixteen years. With experience of working for a global company, Johnson Matthey Plc, Tilly joined SCEMES in a sales role but quickly transferred to a customer services capacity.

Tilly now works alongside the administration department, collecting unpaid debts and processing payments from customers. She also liaises with customers, ensuring excellent customer service and guaranteeing that customers are happy with the service that they receive from SCEMES.

Technical

Responsible for the creation and operation of technical systems that facilitate the smooth operation of company business, and for the development of SCEMES Online.

Richard McLardie
Website and Information Technology Administrator

Richard maintains and provides office IT solutions for SCEMES. With a strong background in information technology, Richard brings technical expertise to the team, taking responsibility for server hardware provision, internal web services, Desktop IT hardware and software provision, as well as SCEMES’ network and backup infrastructures.

In addition, Richard provides IT training for Accounts and Administration staff and oversees the development of SCEMES’ internal and external web services.

James Birkett
System Developments

James joined SCEMES in 2004 after studying computer science at Brunel. He is responsible for the development and maintenance of SCEMES’ internal database systems

James also oversees the maintenance of all office fixtures and fittings and aids staff with technical problems on a day to day basis.

Sales

Responsible for raising revenue for the company through the sale of adverts.

Denise (Dee) Jones
Sales Manager

Dee was elected to the position of Sales Manager following a change in the management structure in SCEMES in June 2008.

Dee, who joined SCEMES as a telesales executive in 2004, has an unparalleled track record of success in sales. Since joining the company, Dee has been named salesperson of the month 31 times, and ranked as salesperson of the year for 2005, 2006 and 2007.

As Sales manager, Dee is now responsible for overseeing the operations of the sales team, motivating and supporting sales staff and formulating the company’s sales strategy together with other senior managers.

Justine Betts
Sales Supervisor

Justine joined SCEMES as a telesales executive in June 2007. With extensive customer service experience, Justine quickly built up an impressive track record in sales, regularly exceeding her targets and winning awards for her achievements.

In July 2008, Justine was promoted to the position of Sales Supervisor and now assists and supervises other telesales staff as well as undertaking telesales duties. Her role involves supervising sales administration, undertaking customer service duties and assisting sales managers where necessary. 

Rebecca Hunt Jennings
Sales Supervisor

Becky was promoted to the position of Sales Supervisor in January 2009 after proving her leadership skills working with the sales team responsible for the Handbook of Sustainable Procurement.

With a strong sales background, Becky has consistently exceeded her sales targets since joining SCEMES over five years ago. She is now responsible for supervising other members of the sales team and assisting the sales manager, whilst undertaking telesales duties.
